My Scouting Legacy...........

I started this post a bunch of times.  Like a million times!!  I know what I want to say.....I think........I think but I don't know how to put it into a post.

My biggest concern as a leader is someone coming to me later and saying "You should have done this to help me" or "You had no clue what you were doing and that hindered me".  I can see clearly that two leaders who served before I did who lost two boys records and they did not achieve Eagle because of it.  I hold myself to a much higher standard than I do anyone else.  I mean really high almost to a fault.  I wish I were perfect.

So, what has been my Scouting legacy?

I am fully trained.  I look for further opportunities to be trained.  It is only through training that I reach my full potential.

I am training my boys to lead.  It is hard at time when they don't show up but I am sure trying to turn the program over to them.

I am leaving a legacy.

Legacy attempt failure........Let a boy tell you how it is.

I have attempted, horribly, in this blog to discuss what I feel like my legacy is in calling as Varsity Coach.  I have struggled at times knowing that I am doing the right thing for my boys.  Sometimes I have felt like a complete and total failure and other times I wanna rip off my shirt and scream "WAHOO"!

This week I received a return letter that has been 18 months in the waiting.  18 months ago I wrote this missionary a letter with cash inside telling him the more letters I got, the more cash he would get.  He also waited to the last minute to earn his Eagle.  One and a half years later I got a return letter.  I don't share to brag.  I just share to those, like me, who might think that they are not making a difference might actually be making a significant difference.
Life going great.  I've learned a ton and I'm super excited for the future.........
Thanks for everything!  You were the best youth leader I ever had and are one of my best friends.  You are the man and you've been a force for so much good in your little corner of the Garden.  You're a great example and you have made a huge difference in my life.
Enough said.  Any attempt in the future by me discussing my legacy except when I am not longer the Varsity Coach should just be quickly referred to this post.  Tell me to shut my face and stop worrying.
A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves. —Lao Tzu

Merit Badge Marathon

A long time ago, in a universe far from here I couldn't sleep.  I was worried about getting my boys to Eagle because they lacked merit badges.  So I created an idea called a Merit Badge Marathon (some might call it a Merit Badge College).  I changed the name to re-brand it.  I wanted the boys to know it wasn't a "come and done" activity for merit badges.  Homework was passed out before and after to make sure they did their work.  There was interaction with the merit badge counselor outside of the class.  Our Stake has taken this idea and assigned each ward to run one of these quarterly.  They also changed the name to a Merit Badge College.  I have been involved in most of them.  Hopefully this is some sort of legacy that will get me some kind of award ~ because that is the only reason I am in Scouting ~ PATCHES AND AWARDS!!  This was an idea before Wood Badge and then I wrote a guide on how to run one as a ticket item.

My manual is here.  If the link doesn't work, all you gotta do is ask me.
My model for registration is here.
Merit Badge Counselor application is here.
Merit Badge Counselor help is here

Also, I don't keep anything on DropBox that I don't want others to see.
