LDS Aaronic Priesthood Encampment

Ugh....................our Stake has taken a strangle hold on this thing including adding additional meetings for us to go to before this weekends Aaronic Priesthood Encampment to give us further responsibilities and requirements past those established on the website.

I really have a bad attitude and I know exactly why.  This is in no way a Scout event even though our boys will be required to wear their uniforms to a Book of Mormon Pageant.  They will be required to wear their uniform to the missionary prep program.  Yet at no other point do they have to wear their uniform.

During the "leadership" meeting, we are required to send our oldest, most mature Scout to the meeting and a member of the Bishopric.  No Senior Patrol Leader will be sent, no Varsity Captain will be sent and no Venturing President will be sent to this meeting.  So we have taken established leadership and they have removed it completely.

The website says registrations forms are due when we show up.  Our Stake wanted them 2 weeks ahead of time.  And when my units forms were not in on time, we were treated like 2 year olds and the SYMP tattled to the SP.  When I confront them about the website and their deadline I heard "Well the website is right but........."  I don't give a hoot about what came after the word "but".  We were right.

We are slowly being choked out by leadership that have put their hand around our throat.  Instead of treating us like adults, they make decisions for us.  Instead of letting us lead, they  lead us.

I love Scouting with all my heart.
I love my Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all my heart.

But the two just don't mix well at all.

I disagree, the church and Scouting mix together perfectly--when understood and used properly.

For 6 years my Stake has demonstrated that they don't use them properly. I wonder if they understand.

I wonder what I would do in a Stake that did it right. Probably find something to complain about. :)
