Personal Progress and Scouting = Same Goals

Personal Progress is the LDS version (minus camping and Scoutcraft) of Scouting with a heavy mix of our Duty to God program for the Young Women of our Church.



 This is their theme:

Young Women Theme 

WE ARE DAUGHTERS of our Heavenly Father, who loves us, and we love Him. WE WILL “STAND as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places” (Mosiah 18:9) as we strive to live the Young Women values, which are:

Faith • Divine Nature • Individual Worth • Knowledge • Choice and Accountability • Good Works • Integrity • and Virtue

WE BELIEVE as we come to accept and act upon these values, WE WILL BE PREPARED to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.

It is a wonderful program that two of my daughters participate in.  As I have stated before, I believe this program is just as important for young women as Scouting is for young men.  I don't think I could be clearer - The Personal Progress program is just as important for young women as Scouting is for young men.

My daughter's leaders are EXCELLENT!  I am grateful for their service to my daughters and especially the things I don't see - the behind the scene stuff that I know they do because they are always surprising me.  DISCLAIMER: My wife is one of those leaders (and I have NEVER met a woman who spends more time preparing a lesson than her!).

Last night one of the Young Men earned her Young Women Personal Progress award and I couldn't be more excited for her and more importantly the example she is setting for my daughters.  It appeared that the crowd wasn't going to clap for her so I led started that.  (What is up with Mormons and clapping?  We were in the gym people.)

One of the leaders shared this talk about why Personal Progress is so important.  Here are the reason listed in this talk.

• Because it can change the world.
• Because it can change YOU.
• Because you're so busy.
• Because it leads you to the Temple.
• Because it can help you reach your dreams.

Are these reasons any different than the reason we as LDS Scouters work the Scouting program and try and get boys and parents alike to see the importance of Scouting?  NO!!!
