National Advancement Committee

Scoutmaster CG had a great podcast with a few Scouts from the National Advancement Committee.

A couple things I harvested from this podcast are:
  • The Eagle Scout Rank Application does not require a leadership position.  It requires a Position of Responsibility.  There is a huge difference.  A scribe or libriarian does not need to lead in their job (these are both jobs that fulfill requirement number #4 on an Eagle Scout Rank Application).  If all boys are leading, there are no followers.  A good leader is a good follower too.  So following your designated leader and just serving in a position of responsibility is OK!!
  • The new Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook does not require the boy to actually complete the portion labeled The Plan (pages 11-16).  They emphasized that it is a tool and can essentially be "picked up and put down" when needed by the Scout.  It states this on page 5.
  •  Determining "activity" of a boy is pretty spelled out in section 4.2.3.1.  A boy is active if he is living a "Scouting" life while doing other things like sports.
