ScoutmasterCG.com has a great blog on the "big picture" of Scouting.
I think what I surmised from the blog is that there isn't just one path to Eagle or overcoming obstacles ("This Is Scout" training video says "There is no “one way” to work towards Eagle.") There are so many paths. Even "failing", which I don't think we would ever let our boys do, is a good thing. Overcoming a trial is a great feeling!
